Nkosana Makate Biography
Nkosana Makate, a South African individual and investor, came up with the idea for the “Please Call Me” service for Vodacom. This service allows Vodacom users to make calls to another Vodacom user even when they have run out of phone credit. Despite proposing the idea to Vodacom, Makate was not initially compensated for it. As a result, he took legal action against the company and eventually won the case.
Born in 1976 in Natalspruit Hospital. He was raised by his maternal grandparents in the East Rand, Katlehon, Ekurhuleni.
Career
The creator of PCM began his career in accounting at Vodacom. He started at the telecom company in February 1995 as part of their trainee accounting program. In 2003, he moved on to become the Finance Manager at Nedbank. Between 2006 and 2013, he held the position of Deputy Director of Business Governance at the City of Joburg. In 2013, he transitioned to the SA Local Government Association, taking on the role of Director of Finance Control.
